The ambassador congratulated the leadership of Turkmenistan on adoption of a resolution on the initiative of the Turkmen side, particularly focusing the attention of the briefing participants on the mutual support of our countries for constructive proposals and initiatives within regional and international organizations. In particular, Uzbekistan welcomes and supports the initiative of Turkmenistan on the need to adopt a special UN program for the Aral Sea basin.

The head of the diplomatic mission of our country noted the timeliness and great significance of the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create a Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the UN.

The briefing participants were informed about practical measures taken by Uzbekistan to overcome negative effects of the shrinking Aral Sea, improve the socio-economic situation in the region, create favorable conditions for the population living here, as well as the goals and objectives of the State Program for the Development of the Aral Sea Region for 2017-2021.

The confidence was expressed that based on the centuries-old traditions of our peoples in respect for nature and the joint rational use of water resources of transboundary rivers, the countries of Central Asia will be able to achieve truly breakthrough results in eliminating the consequences of the drying up Aral Sea and ensuring environmental well-being in the region.
