Ecological Party questions legality of tree cutting and construction in Tashkent’s Mirabad district

A parliamentary inquiry has been sent to the Prosecutor General and the Minister of Ecology following reports of tree cutting at the former military hospital area in Tashkent.

On social media, information has been circulating that greenery and trees have disappeared at 124 Avliyoota Street in the Yangi Mirabad neighborhood of Mirabad district, Tashkent city, replaced by bare soil. Construction work is reportedly underway at this location.

Photos attached to the reports show the before and after conditions of the site, clearly indicating a significant reduction in green spaces.

Navruzbek Yusupov, a deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and a member of the Uzbekistan Ecological Party faction, sent a parliamentary inquiry with several questions to the Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan and the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

The inquiry raises several concerns:

  • Have the trees in this area been surveyed, and how is the disappearance of trees explained?
  • Were the land allocation procedures for this plot in accordance with land legislation, given it was allocated to a business entity?
  • Is the construction consistent with Tashkent city’s master plan up to 2045?
  • Has the project at this address undergone an environmental impact assessment?
  • What measures have been taken to prevent and preserve trees during the construction process?

The deputy requests clarification on these points.
