Energy Ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan discuss hydropower projects and grid stability
Tashkent hosted a trilateral meeting of the Energy Ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

At the meeting, the parties discussed ensuring the stable operation of water and energy systems during the summer period and agreed on the schedule for energy grid operations. Special attention was given to joint projects, particularly the current status of the construction of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant and coordination of the water-energy balance.
At the conclusion of the talks, the sides signed a corresponding protocol and agreed to hold follow-up activities in the near future.
As a reminder, the energy ministers of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan recently reviewed the progress of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant, which is being built on the Naryn River. They also discussed matters related to aligning the water and energy balance between the three countries.
In March 2021, during Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov’s visit to Uzbekistan, an agreement was signed to prepare an investment project for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1.
Later, in January 2023, the heads of the energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap for implementing the hydropower project on the Naryn River.
