President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced the allocation of an additional 1 trillion UZS to support the comprehensive development of Andijan region. The news was shared by the president’s press secretary, Sherzod Asadov.
During a meeting held on April 16, it was noted that regional industry had grown by 7.5%, while the trade and services sector had expanded by 13%. Since the beginning of 2024, over 4,000 new entrepreneurs have launched operations in Andijan. Additionally, 51 small enterprises have advanced to medium size, and 13 have grown into large businesses.
Roughly 450,000 local residents have found employment. A total of 1.5 million square meters of residential and 850,000 square meters of non-residential property have been constructed.
“But life doesn’t stand still. Every day, people come up with new ideas and initiatives and set increasingly ambitious goals,” said the president.
Since 2017, the local machine-building sector has grown twentyfold. For example, in Bulakbashi, Uzbekistan’s first production line for fabric-dyeing equipment was launched. The president noted that if conditions were created for 10–15 similar enterprises, the landscape of the industrial equipment sector could be significantly transformed.
He identified the main obstacle to the sector’s development as the bureaucratic and time-consuming process of machine certification, which results in limited funding for such projects. Government officials were instructed to establish close contact with machine manufacturers and provide them with necessary support.
Uzbekistan will begin establishing mechanical engineering and design centers starting from Andijan. Local entrepreneurs will be allocated 5 billion UZS to localize equipment production for key industries such as automotive, textile, footwear, and other drivers of the economy.
Over the past three years, regional officials have initiated more than 600 investment projects involving foreign partners. However, only a third have been implemented. The president ordered the creation of an electronic registry to log meetings with investors and mandated daily tracking of the tasks and goals set during those meetings.
President Mirziyoyev also emphasized the importance of creating industrial and trade zones near the Kyrgyzstan border in Kurgontepa and Khojaobod. He instructed relevant agencies to select suitable locations and develop master plans. Additionally, he requested proposals to reduce the load on the “Dustlik” border checkpoint.
Another key initiative involves developing a program to improve the railway network in the Fergana Valley. The president stressed the need to prepare stations and customs terminals for the launch of the Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan–China railway, which is expected to increase freight volumes by a factor of ten.
