This initiative was revealed during a dialogue held on April 12 between foreign trade participants and customs officials. The meeting focused on solving challenges in customs and manufacturing sectors, as well as implementing proposals made by the business community.
Among the key discussion points were the benefits of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status. Currently, 66 companies hold this status, allowing them to process 25,000 shipments on a priority basis in 2023 and receive deferred customs payments totaling 410 billion UZS.
Additionally, 2,000 shipments worth a combined $76 million were permitted to be stored in warehouses without securing customs duties, helping entrepreneurs save approximately 7 billion UZS.
Participants also noted the establishment of electronic document exchange between customs and tax authorities, enabling VAT refunds on exported goods. As a result, over 4,000 exporters were able to submit data online to tax authorities for 88,000 consignments.
The meeting also highlighted a changing approach to the role of the Customs Committee — from being a controlling body to becoming a "partner for business." In this context, the proposal to create a consultative council under the Customs Committee was put forward to protect and promote business interests.
The council will work to enhance the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s exports. Its responsibilities will include advocating for the exemption of raw materials and components from additional payments and contributing to the reduction of local production costs.
