The Competition Committee announced that the Uzum Market online store has been identified as having a dominant position in the market.
According to reports, the criteria for recognizing a digital platform operator as dominant are outlined in the regulation approved as an annex to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution dated May 1, 2024. This regulation defines the procedure for acknowledging the dominant position and bargaining power of digital platform operators.
In accordance with this resolution, a corresponding order by the Competition Committee has officially designated Uzum Market LLC as a dominant digital platform operator in the e-commerce marketplace sector.
What does "dominant position" mean?
A dominant position refers to a situation in which a business entity or a group of individuals in a particular goods or financial market operates independently of competing businesses. This enables them to significantly influence market conditions, restrict the entry of new competitors, or otherwise limit the economic freedom of other market participants.
