New cargo train service links India, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan

Container trains have started operating from India to Kazakhstan, transiting through Uzbekistan, according to the press service of "Uztemiryulcontainer."

The new route was organized with the participation of "Uztemiryulcontainer," a subsidiary of "Uzbekistan Railways," along with "Kedentransservice" and the Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan (TLCT). The 4,885 km journey consists of 12 standard 20-foot containers passing through four countries.

Of the total distance, 1,585 km will be covered by sea from India's Mundra port to Iran’s Bandar Abbas. The containers will then be transferred to platforms and cross three borders — at Serakhs, Farab, and Keles — before reaching Sorokovaya station in Astana.

Mirziyod Mirkhamidov, who was appointed head of "Uztemiryulcontainer" in February, shared plans to establish regular freight train shipments along the India–Central Asia route. This initiative is expected to strengthen trade ties and expand opportunities for exporters and importers.

Earlier, in August 2024, "Uztemiryulcontainer" launched multimodal shipments from India to Uzbekistan. A freight train carrying 20 containers traveled from Mundra via Bandar Abbas to Sergeli station in just 20 days, with plans to reduce the transit time to 15 days.

In the spring of 2022, India sent cargo to Uzbekistan for the first time via Pakistan and Afghanistan. The shipment was transported by sea from Mumbai to Karachi, then delivered by truck across two borders to its final destination.
