Uzbekistan introduces jail time for repeat drunk driving without a license
Fines for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs have increased in Uzbekistan, and repeat offenders caught driving without a valid license now face criminal charges.
The government has strengthened administrative penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances. Offenders now face a fine of 40 base calculation units (BCU) and a driving ban of up to three years. Previously, the penalty included a 25 BCU fine and a driving ban ranging from one year and six months to three years.
If the same offense is committed by a person without a valid driver's license, the penalty includes a 50 BCU fine or up to 15 days of administrative arrest. Previously, the fine for this offense was 40 BCU.
Additionally, the Criminal Code has been updated with Article 261-2, introducing criminal penalties for individuals who drive after having been deprived of their license. This includes cases where the violation occurs after an administrative penalty for a similar offense has already been imposed.
Under this new article, penalties range from a fine of 50 to 100 BCU, corrective labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for a term of two to three years.
