Senate approves law targeting organizers and funders of mass riots

The plenary session of the Senate reviewed the Law "On Amendments to Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

Instability, mass riots, and tensions occurring worldwide undermine peace in states and negatively affect mutual friendship and the tranquility of nations.

Some criminal groups take advantage of legislative gaps to finance mass riots and recruit specially trained individuals to organize them.

Article 244 of the Criminal Code establishes criminal liability for organizing mass riots, actively participating in them, and publicly inciting violence against citizens.

However, the Code does not provide for liability for undergoing training aimed at organizing mass riots, including training in handling weapons, explosives, and other objects dangerous to the public, as well as financing activities related to organizing mass riots.

This Law has been developed to ensure peace and stability in the country, to eliminate the aforementioned legislative gap, and to guarantee the inevitability of criminal liability.

Thus, Part Three of Article 244 of the Criminal Code establishes criminal liability for undergoing training with the intent of organizing mass riots, while Part Four of the same article establishes liability for financing such activities.

The Law serves to maintain peace and stability in the country, effectively combat organized crime, and improve the crime prevention system.

After discussions, the Law was approved by the senators.
