In a video statement, they admitted to being the executors of the assassination attempt on Komil Allamjonov.

Javlon Yunusov, who acted as an intermediary between the mastermind and the perpetrators, received an 18-year prison sentence.

Former First Deputy Head of the Tashkent City Police Department, Doniyor Toshkhujayev, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was accused of attempting to conceal the crime and obstructing the investigation.

Additionally, five other defendants received various prison terms corresponding to their involvement in the crime.

The high-profile assassination attempt

On October 26 at around 01:40 AM, Komil Allamjonov was driving home in a Range Rover with his driver when two unidentified individuals opened fire on the vehicle on Ifor Street in Qibray District. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.

The next day, the Prosecutor General’s Office released an official statement confirming the arrest of two suspects. However, no further details were disclosed afterward.

Komil Allamjonov previously served as the Press Secretary of the President of Uzbekistan and was responsible for information policy within the presidential administration. He was one of the high-ranking officials in Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s administration. Prior to the assassination attempt, Allamjonov had left his government position and announced his transition to the private sector.

The attempt on his life was an unprecedented event in modern Uzbek politics, as there had never been any officially reported attempts to assassinate a current or former high-ranking official.

On October 27, the first suspect was arrested. In a statement issued on November 25, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that seven individuals had been detained in connection with the case, revealing only one name: Javlon Yunusov, who was extradited from South Korea. The statement also confirmed that another suspect had been apprehended in Kazakhstan.

In November, several high-ranking officials from the State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including the head of the SSS, Abdusalom Azizov, and First Deputy Head of the Tashkent City Police Department, Doniyor Toshkhujayev, were dismissed. Sources indicate that these dismissals were linked to the investigation into the assassination attempt on Allamjonov.
