This agreement was reached during the 12th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Strengthening Bilateral Water Cooperation between Uzbekistan's Minister of Water Resources, Shavkat Khamraev, and Kazakhstan's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
It was noted that in the previous water management year (October 2023 – October 2024), 15 billion cubic meters of water were delivered to Kazakhstan. This year, the volume is expected to increase by 1 billion cubic meters.
Additionally, Uzbekistan will assist in ensuring a stable water supply through the Dostyk Canal during the 2025 irrigation season.
The ministers also agreed to carry out joint repairs on interstate canals, which will improve water distribution for farmers in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh region and Kazakhstan's Turkestan region.
