Uzbekistan drastically increases recycling fee for electric vehicles
The government has signed a decision to raise the recycling fee for imported electric vehicles, effective from May 1, 2025. The fee will range from 45 million UZS to 78.5 million UZS, depending on the vehicle's year of manufacture.

A government resolution titled "Additional Measures for Financing the Establishment of Infrastructure for Recycling Electric Vehicle Battery Packs" has been adopted.
According to the document, starting May 1, 2025, Uzbekistan will introduce recycling fees for electric vehicles (HS Code 8703 80) as follows:
- For electric vehicles no older than three years from the manufacturing date – 120 times the base calculation unit, equivalent to 45 million UZS;
- For electric vehicles older than three years from the manufacturing date – 210 times the base calculation unit, amounting to 78.75 million UZS.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, in collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade, will develop a procedure for collecting and effectively utilizing the recycling fees within two months.
This decision aims to expand the use of green technologies, ensure the environmentally safe disposal of used electric vehicle batteries, and further accelerate localization efforts in the sector.
The introduction of a recycling fee for electric vehicle batteries in Uzbekistan starting in 2025 was first announced in October of last year.
