Minimum consumer spending in Uzbekistan increased by 21,000 UZS

Uzbekistan's minimum consumer spending (MCS), which serves as the benchmark for the poverty line, has been increased by 3.2%, rising from 648,000 UZS to 669,000 UZS per month, according to a recalculation by the Statistics Agency.

This is the latest adjustment since May of last year, when the MCS was raised from 621,000 to 648,000 UZS per month.

The agency emphasized that globally, the minimum consumption threshold is used as the poverty line to:

• Identify the target groups in need of material and social assistance from the government;

• Take into account actual consumption patterns and the needs of the target population when determining the poverty line;

• Enhance the efficiency and targeting of measures outlined in poverty reduction strategies and programs, while ensuring their ongoing monitoring;

• Use this indicator to determine the minimum levels of pensions and benefits, as well as to provide other forms of material assistance to low-income families.

Minimum consumer spending is a calculated amount representing the basic costs for food, non-food goods, and services. These figures are based on the actual costs and consumption patterns required to maintain a healthy standard of living for households.
