During a session of the Legislative Chamber, the Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, reported that, of the total accidents involving cargo and passenger vehicles:
-The largest number of incidents involved Damas microvans (widely used as public transport) — 1,592 accidents (52.3% of the total);
-Freight vehicles — 558 accidents (18.3%);
-Buses — 137 accidents (4.5%);
-Minibuses — 29 accidents (0.95%).
It was also highlighted that 351 accidents (3.7%) occurred due to drivers failing to adhere to work and rest schedules, leading to fatigue and falling asleep at the wheel. These incidents resulted in 189 fatalities and 285 injuries.
Falling asleep at the wheel is one of the leading causes of road traffic accidents globally. Drivers are urged to strictly follow rest schedules, particularly during long-distance trips, to prevent tragic outcomes.
