According to the international news agency "Kazinform," a draft law aimed at improving the effectiveness of corrective measures for prisoners was actively discussed during a meeting of the Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) party.
The proposed law would allow prisoners to shorten their sentences by demonstrating actions that confirm they have embarked on a path of self-rehabilitation through education.
“The draft law aims to improve the behavior of inmates and foster a moral and educational environment in correctional institutions, particularly by encouraging them to engage in reading. Specifically, for inmates serving irrevocable sentences, their sentence could be reduced by 3 days for reading one book from an approved list and passing a designated exam. It is proposed that no more than 10 books may be read per year,” the article states.
The list of books will be approved by the Republican Center of Spirituality and Enlightenment.
