Samarkand to expand by over 400 hectares with major development plans
A draft resolution proposing the transfer of land from the Samarkand and Akdarya districts to the city of Samarkand, amending its boundaries, has been approved in its first reading during a plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

In accordance with the presidential decree, plans are underway from 2023 to 2030 to establish a Directorate responsible for developing the “Shirin” business and residential complex. As part of this, the Cabinet of Ministers has proposed transferring 170 hectares of land from the Samarkand district and 243 hectares from the Akdarya district to the city of Samarkand.
This expansion will facilitate the development of the center, which will include 254 multi-story buildings, 19 business and commercial centers, 50 social facilities, 89 entertainment and shopping complexes, and a historical town.
Additionally, the region will see the construction of 112 km of internal roads, pedestrian and bicycle paths, 6 km of an above-ground metro line, 2 large bridges, and a 7.2 km internal communication tunnel. This will be complemented by 180 km of irrigation pipelines, 14 km of canals, and numerous other irrigation facilities.
It was noted during the session that the draft resolution had been discussed at mahalla citizens' gatherings, as well as at the Samarkand regional and city councils, and the district councils of Samarkand and Akdarya. During these discussions, cartographic boundary maps and boundary classifications were approved.
According to deputies, these changes will further enhance living conditions for the population while promoting the growth of production and service sectors.
