Bukhara police apprehended a 17-year-old teenager in December 2024 for circulating $2.6 million worth of crypto assets without a license. A criminal case was initiated under part three of Article 278-8 of the Criminal Code, and preliminary investigative actions were conducted. However, it was later determined that his actions were not socially dangerous, and, given his remorse, the case was closed on December 30. His smartphone was returned, while the other material evidence was retained for the case.
Rasul Kusherbaev, a consultant to the Ministry of Ecology, confirmed that the criminal case against Murodjon Zuvurov was closed on December 30, following a decision by the investigator. The closure was based on the fact that his actions were not deemed socially dangerous, coupled with his genuine remorse and family circumstances.
"Based on the accused's request, and in accordance with part 5, item 2 of Article 84 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for a person who has committed a minor or relatively insignificant crime for the first time, admitted guilt, expressed sincere remorse, and actively assisted in solving the crime, the case should be closed without determining his guilt," the investigator's decision reads.
According to the investigation, Murodjon Zuvurov conducted 1,865 transactions on the Binance crypto exchange between May 13 and November 12, 2024, purchasing USDT worth 17.3 billion UZS. Additionally, he sold USDT worth 17.3 billion UZS through 3,364 transactions. In total, the circulation of banned crypto assets exceeded 34.68 billion UZS.
With the case closed, the charges initially brought against M. Zuvurov on December 14, 2024, were dropped, and the personal guarantee measures previously applied to him were lifted.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, which had been confiscated during the investigation, was returned to him, while other material evidence was retained for storage in the case files.
