Shavkat Mirziyoyev sends condolences to South Korea's acting President over plane crash tragedy

According to the president's press secretary, Mirziyoyev expressed heartfelt sympathy to the people of Korea, as well as to the families and loved ones of the deceased, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, also expressed condolences regarding the plane crash.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport in the Republic of Korea. On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this horrific event,” the minister wrote.

Plane crash in South Korea

On December 29, a Jeju Air passenger plane crashed in South Korea. The plane, which failed to deploy its landing gear, skidded off the runway, collided with an obstacle, and caught fire.

The Boeing 737, which had flown from Bangkok, was carrying 179 South Korean nationals and 2 Thai citizens.

According to the latest information, 179 people were confirmed dead, while two people survived - both cabin staff.

A few days earlier, on December 25, an Embraer 190 plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed in Kazakhstan. The Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash resulted in the deaths of 38 people. The plane had 67 people aboard — 62 passengers and 5 crew members. At least 29 passengers survived, as they were seated in the tail section of the aircraft.

On December 25, Uzbekistan's president sent condolences to the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia following the plane crash. On December 26, during a phone conversation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again expressed his deep condolences to Ilham Aliyev over the tragic loss of many lives in the crash.
