The government of Uzbekistan has disciplined 18 officials, including 14 local governors, for shortcomings in managing energy resources and delays in coal distribution. The penalties, announced by the Cabinet of Ministers, follow a failure to meet targets for energy efficiency and to prevent the misuse of electricity and natural gas, according to the Prime Minister’s press service.
The reprimanded governors include officials from districts across Uzbekistan, such as Oqoltin, Mirzaabad, Bostanlik, and Zangiota. They were cited for exceeding energy consumption limits, failing to enforce energy-saving measures, and inadequate oversight of resource allocation.
Additionally, several regional deputy governors were held accountable for allowing theft and misuse of electricity and natural gas. These include representatives from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Namangan, and Tashkent regions.
The government also highlighted delays and quality issues in coal distribution. The Deputy Director-General of “Uzbekkomir” JSC, E. Yokubov, was issued a final warning for failing to ensure timely and quality coal delivery to the population.
The Cabinet of Ministers instructed relevant ministries to assess the performance of the reprimanded officials and report findings within a day. Further action may follow based on these assessments.
