The 58-year-old diplomat brings a wealth of experience in international relations, foreign trade, and economic policy. Alimov holds degrees from the N. Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan, and Georgetown University in the United States.
He began his career in 1990 within the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, currently the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade. He later served in senior positions within the Presidential Administration, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, and the Ministry of Macroeconomics and Statistics.
From 2002 to 2008, Alimov represented Uzbekistan as an ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova (on a concurrent basis), as well as to France and Portugal. Since 2008, he has held various positions within Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including counselor at the Embassy in Moscow and head of multiple departments at the ministry’s central office.
In 2020, Alimov was elected as a senator and served as chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments, and Tourism. His appointment as ambassador follows the tenure of Akmal Kucharov, who served in Ashgabat from 2016 to 2024.
Alimov’s proficiency in English, French, Russian, and Ukrainian further enhances his capacity to foster bilateral relations and expand Uzbekistan’s cooperation with Turkmenistan across various sectors.
