Bukhara students struggling as school reconstruction delays

Currently, the students have been relocated to School No. 34 in the city, where they are studying in two shifts. However, parents and students have expressed concerns about the inadequate facilities at the temporary location. According to one parent, “The children are attending classes in an old, worn-out school building with broken floors and desks. There is no space for additional lessons, and the conditions are far from ideal.”

One student, writing about the situation, said, "We are studying in cold, outdated classrooms. The students at the temporary school are not welcoming, and we are often bullied. When we approach the teachers, they just say there is nothing they can do because we are studying in someone else's school, and we have no choice.”

Some parents are considering transferring their children to other schools due to the poor conditions. One mother shared her frustration, “My daughter was accepted into the specialized school with high marks, but instead of studying in a modern building, she is attending classes in a dilapidated school. We were promised that the school would be ready by this academic year, but at this rate, it seems unlikely.”

The local authorities, in response to these complaints, have assured that the reconstruction will be completed by March 2025. The Bukhara regional government has allocated a total of 14 billion soums for the project, and construction is ongoing, despite the delays.

The Special Education Agency confirmed that several letters have been sent to the Bukhara City Administration urging them to expedite the construction. According to the agency's spokesperson, "We have repeatedly requested the city to finish the reconstruction and deliver the school building as soon as possible."

The construction project, which began after the closure of an orphanage in Bukhara, is aimed at creating a modern, functional space for the specialized school, which caters to students with specific needs. Despite the challenges faced by the students and their families, the authorities are optimistic that the project will be completed on schedule by March 2025.
