Though the German Language Olympiad is not part of the world’s top five Olympiads — namely, the IMO (mathematics), IBO (biology), IChO (chemistry), IPhO (physics), and IOI (informatics) — Uzbekistan recently began including it in the list of recognized international Olympiads with cash awards.

Rayyona Ibrohimova, who comes from a family of teachers and resides in the Poloson neighborhood of Andijan district, won her gold medal at the German Language World Olympiad held in Göttingen, Germany in July.

During the ceremony, Uzbek students who excelled in the five globally acknowledged Olympiads were also awarded. This year, Uzbek students earned a total of 11 medals: one gold, four silver, and six bronze.

Under a presidential decree, the government has allocated one-time financial rewards for winners in recognized Olympiads as follows:

•  Gold Medal (1st place): 187.5 million UZS for the student and 168.75 million UZS for the teacher.
•  Silver Medal (2nd place): 112.5 million UZS for the student and 93.75 million UZS for the teacher.
•  Bronze Medal (3rd place): 75 million UZS for the student and 56.25 million UZS for the teacher.

Additionally, these award-winning students are granted admission to state universities on a scholarship basis without any entrance or additional exams. If they choose to pursue teaching careers, they will receive a 150% monthly salary increase.

Starting this year, the cash prizes awarded to Olympiad winners will be exempt from income tax, further supporting and motivating Uzbekistan’s top academic talents.
