Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan agree on closer cooperation against security threats
On October 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Orkhan Sultanov, Head of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Intelligence Service, who arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. The meeting focused on enhancing interagency cooperation between the special services of both countries in combating terrorism, extremism, radicalism, and cybercrime, as well as addressing other modern security threats.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sultanov conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to President Mirziyoyev.
The parties then discussed the further deepening of the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan alliance and multifaceted cooperation, particularly in the framework of agreements reached at the highest levels. They noted the ongoing active dialogue and fruitful exchanges between the two countries, as well as the steady growth in mutual trade and investments. Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting and accelerating joint projects and organizing cultural and humanitarian events.
A key point of discussion was the need for closer and more effective coordination between the security services of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in addressing terrorism, extremism, radicalism, cybercrime, and other contemporary threats to security.
Additionally, the meeting included discussions on expanding practical cooperation aimed at supporting Afghanistan’s economic development.
