The main agenda of the inaugural session centered around evaluating the outcomes of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov’s recent state visit to Uzbekistan, as well as exploring new avenues for future cooperation between the two countries. Discussions highlighted the potential for intensified collaboration in various sectors, including trade, economic relations, and regional connectivity.

Eldor Aripov emphasized the positive developments in trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Notably, he pointed out the reopening of the "Korasu-Karasuu" border crossing, which had been closed since 2010. This crossing, connecting the Andijan region in Uzbekistan with the Osh region in Kyrgyzstan, now facilitates the movement of approximately 12,000 people per day. Additionally, new customs posts linking the Namangan and Jalalabad regions, capable of handling 10,000 individuals and over 800 vehicles daily, have been opened.

Aripov also drew attention to the economic benefits stemming from these developments, particularly the potential shortening of key transit routes. For instance, the recently reopened "Korasu" border post reduces the Osh-Jalalabad route by 101 kilometers, offering a more efficient transit route via Uzbekistan’s territory.

Sanjar Mukanbetov, Director of the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives in Kyrgyzstan, praised the unprecedented level of cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted the importance of nurturing the strong alliance, which has flourished due to the trust and camaraderie between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The establishment of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan Expert Council follows the signing of a memorandum on July 30, 2023, aimed at fostering closer cooperation between the two countries. This council now serves as a vital platform for experts to support the agreements reached during the high-level summit between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan held on July 18-19, 2023.
