OSCE ODIHR mission prepares for parliamentary election observation in Uzbekistan

During the meeting, organizational aspects of ODIHR's participation in monitoring the preparation and conduct of the parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 27, 2024, were thoroughly reviewed. The discussion focused on ensuring that the necessary frameworks are in place for the smooth functioning of the observation mission.

Deputy Minister Aloev provided the ODIHR delegation with detailed insights into Uzbekistan's domestic and foreign policy priorities, particularly emphasizing the ongoing democratic reforms being implemented as part of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' role in the electoral process was highlighted, including efforts to organize voting for Uzbek citizens living abroad.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing constructive cooperation in improving Uzbekistan's electoral legislation and practices. This partnership is particularly focused on ensuring that the forthcoming parliamentary elections adhere to democratic standards and principles.

Douglas Wake expressed gratitude to the Uzbek government for facilitating all necessary conditions for the effective operation of the ODIHR's election observation mission.
