According to a report from Kyodo, this decision is connected with a warning issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency about the potential for a powerful earthquake and tsunami in the country.

Kishida announced the cancellation during a press conference held on Friday. He was supposed to participate in the Japan-Central Asia Summit in Astana.

On Thursday, August 8, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Japan's southwestern Miyazaki Prefecture.
