Uzbekistan's population hits 37.1 million as birth rates and life expectancy rise

There are slightly more men (18.6 million) than women (18.4 million) in the country. Rural areas are home to 18.1 million people.

The average age of men is 28.5 years, and for women, it is 30 years. This figure provides a general understanding of the population's age structure and is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the ages of all individuals in the population.

Out of the entire population, 32% are younger than the working age, 56.4% are of working age, and 11.6% are older than the working age.

Life expectancy in urban areas has increased to 72.6 years for men and 77.5 years for women. In rural areas, it is 72.3 years for men and 76 years for women.

Population density stands at 82.7 people per square kilometer, which is 1.7 people more compared to the same period last year. The highest density is in Tashkent with 6,864.4 people, and the lowest is in the Navoi region with 9.8 people.

From January to June 2024, 419.9 thousand children were born in Uzbekistan. Of these, 218.1 thousand were boys and 201.8 thousand were girls. In cities, 212.3 thousand newborns were recorded, while in rural areas, there were 207.6 thousand.

The highest birth rates were noted in the Samarkand region (12%), Fergana region (11.2%), Kashkadarya region (10.5%), Andijan region (9.2%), and Surkhandarya region (9%).

In the first half of the year, 81.4 thousand people died in Uzbekistan. Of these, 44.4 thousand were men, and 37 thousand were women.
