Uzbekistan introduces draft law to support compatriots abroad
The draft law aims to regulate relations in providing assistance, support, and protection of the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots abroad.

The draft law "On Supporting Compatriots Abroad" has been published for public discussion.
The draft envisions regulating relations in providing assistance, support, and protection of the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots abroad by Uzbekistan.
The draft outlines the main objectives, primary directions, and methods of encouragement for supporting compatriots abroad.
In particular, the main objectives of supporting compatriots abroad are as follows:
- Assisting in the protection of the rights and freedoms of compatriots abroad based on the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, the laws of the country of residence, and Uzbekistan's international treaties;
- Promoting Uzbekistan's cultural, scientific, and spiritual heritage widely, supporting the activities of compatriots aimed at preserving and developing the Uzbek language, culture, and traditions in their countries of residence, and expanding their opportunities to receive education in Uzbekistan;
- Developing and strengthening relations with compatriots and organizations established by them who wish to contribute to the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan and foster mutually beneficial and friendly relations with foreign countries;
- Creating favorable legal, social, and economic conditions for compatriots to carry out their professional activities, including entrepreneurship, investment, scientific, educational, and cultural activities, within Uzbekistan;
- Supporting the socio-economic and socio-political reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and engaging the potential of compatriots to further strengthen Uzbekistan's international reputation.
Uzbekistan supports compatriots and their organizations abroad in the fields of culture, science, education, information, and economics, organizing events aimed at strengthening friendly relations between Uzbekistan and other foreign countries in cooperation with them.
The adoption of the proposed draft will result in the regulation of relations in supporting compatriots abroad.
The main objectives, primary directions, and methods of encouragement for supporting compatriots abroad will be defined, and efforts will be made to maintain and develop relations with compatriots living abroad.
