Tax data reveals high expenditures on medications in major cities of Uzbekistan

According to the Tax Committee, information on how much the population spends on medical preparations can be formed based on the Product and Service Identification Code (PSIC) shown on fiscal receipts issued to consumers for purchased pharmaceuticals.

During the first five months of the current year, the largest expenditures on medications were recorded in the city of Tashkent (2.1 trillion UZS), Samarkand (986.9 billion UZS), and Tashkent region (663.4 billion UZS).

The lowest spending was noted in the Jizzakh (201.3 billion UZS), Navoi (191.6 billion UZS), and Syrdarya (170 billion UZS) regions.

Based on the population numbers registered in each region and the numbers above, the average person has spent on medications since the beginning of the year:

- In the city of Tashkent – 750 thousand UZS;
- In the Bukhara region – 277 thousand UZS;
- In the Samarkand region – 245.1 thousand UZS.

The lowest per capita spending from January to May were recorded in the following regions:

- In the Kashqadaryo region – 120 thousand UZS;
- In the Republic of Karakalpakstan – 118 thousand UZS;
- In the Surkhandarya region – 114 thousand UZS.

An analysis of fiscal receipt data indicates that the most funds were spent on medications for the treatment of the following diseases:

1. Cardiovascular diseases;
2. Infectious diseases;
3. Pain relief medications;
4. Nervous system disorders;
5. Gastrointestinal diseases;
6. Respiratory diseases;
7. Musculoskeletal system disorders; 
8. ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) diseases;
9. Liver diseases.
