Uzbek diplomats meet with heads of Hong Kong law enforcement agencies

During the visit, meetings were held with the commander of the Hong Kong Police Operations Unit, Inspector Leo Chung, the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Hong Kong Correctional Service, Tsang Hinglun, and Officer Kinpeng Jason.

Issues of further expanding cooperation in law enforcement between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong were discussed at the meeting.

The Hong Kong side was informed about large-scale measures taken in recent years to prevent violations, combat corruption and crime, in particular, reforms being implemented in the judicial system of Uzbekistan.

It was noted that every change taking place in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring the rule of law is aimed at protecting human rights and freedoms, achieving justice and improving the activities of law enforcement agencies in accordance with the times.

Particular emphasis was placed on the state policy of Uzbekistan in the field of supporting compatriots living abroad. Information is presented on the protection of the rights and interests of compatriots who, for various reasons, find themselves in difficult life situations in foreign countries, their return to their homeland, as well as the provision of comprehensive assistance for their reintegration into society.

The Hong Kong side, in turn, introduced the basic laws that foreigners need to pay attention to in Hong Kong, the rules for staying in the area, as well as the unique features of the structure and service of the local police.

It was emphasized that law enforcement agencies in this region of China are interested in strengthening mutual cooperation with diplomatic missions of foreign states in China in the field of crime prevention and combating it, and constant coordination of work in this direction.

The Hong Kong side expressed gratitude for the comprehensive assistance provided in the return to their homeland of Uzbek citizens who found themselves in a difficult life situation in 2019-2023 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on further expansion of bilateral cooperation and joint resolution of cases related to violations.
