California border guards have been ordered to promptly deport undocumented migrants from Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, and Moldova, reports Fox News and The New York Post (NYP) referencing a note sent to border service agents.
According to the document, other individuals caught illegally crossing the border may be released in the US once a court date is set, but they cannot apply for asylum. This was disclosed to NYP by a source from the border service.
Customs and Border Protection confirmed to Fox News that the order applies only to the San Diego sector, which is currently the busiest area for illegal migration.
According to NYP, individuals who are deemed to have a "credible fear" of returning to their country, including Mexico and other states with which the US has a deportation agreement, may be released once their court date is set. However, they too will not be permitted to seek asylum.
Biden imposes ban on asylum for illegal migrants at Mexican border
These instructions come amidst President Joe Biden's order forbidding illegal immigrants from seeking asylum in the states. According to the decree, they will be rapidly deported to their own countries. This measure will remain in effect until the average number of migrants illegally crossing the US-Mexico border drops below 1,500 per day.
The document makes exceptions for unaccompanied migrant children among adults, individuals whose health or safety is under serious threat, and victims of human trafficking, Reuters reported.
NYP writes, based on the border patrol service data, that over 10,000 migrants crossed the southern border during the past holiday weekends.
