Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are planning to lay a deep-sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Energy reports.
On May 1, the ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan approved the terms of reference for the development of a preliminary feasibility study for a project to export green energy to Europe through mutual integration of energy sectors. In particular, international consultants may be involved to study technical and economic conditions.
The heads of the ministries of energy of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of cooperation on interconnection of energy systems. As part of the document, the possibility of laying a cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, a draft technical specification for which was previously formed, and exporting “green” energy to the countries of the European Union will be studied.
“As part of the terms of reference, a proposed business model will be developed for the development of international transmission corridors (financing, revenue flow and ownership) and for the sale of green energy to the countries of the European Union. Based on the above, a draft memorandum of cooperation on interconnection of the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was developed between the Ministries of Energy of the three countries,” the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Satkaliyev said.
According to him, today the basic approaches to the implementation of this project have been discussed and agreed upon. The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan is fully ready for further full-fledged interaction, the minister noted.
Last November, representatives of the Ministries of Energy of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan discussed a project to transfer “green” electricity through the territories of the countries to consumers from third countries – EU countries.
