He has worked in this position since May 2018.
As noted at past farewell meetings with officials of the kingdom, Uzbek-Saudi relations have intensified significantly in recent years.
On August 17-18, 2022, the historic state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Saudi Arabia took place. On July 19, 2023, the head of our state made a working visit to the kingdom to participate in the first ever Summit of Central Asian countries and members of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in the city of Jeddah.
Thanks to these visits, in a short period of time, bilateral relations acquired a dynamic character in all areas of interaction.
This was also facilitated by the holding of three meetings of the Uzbek-Saudi Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economics, Science and Technology, Culture, Sports and Youth, as well as three rounds of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
Currently, intensive preparations are underway for the Second Meeting of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, and in 2025 – the Summit of Heads of State of the Strategic Dialogue “Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf – Central Asia”.
The parties paid special attention to trade, economic and investment cooperation. In each country, 8 business forums were held in turn with the participation of Uzbek and Saudi leading companies, exporters and importers. 3 meetings of the Uzbek-Saudi Business Council were successfully held - in Bukhara, Tashkent and Riyadh.
Currently, Saudi Arabia's total investment in the economy of Uzbekistan is estimated at more than $30 billion. Active participation of Saudi business is expected in the upcoming 3rd Tashkent International Investment Forum on May 2-3.
It should be recalled that Ulugbek Maksudov was also the permanent representative of Uzbekistan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, whose headquarters are located in the city of Jeddah.
