Yesterday, March 21, around 19:10, the rainwater collected as a result of heavy rains in the hills of Kumkurgan district (Surkhandarya region) entered Elobod mahalla through Arnalisoy.

According to the report of the regional administration, a large amount of rainwater did not enter the mahalla’s internal water supply networks, but entered the yards and gardens of 47 houses located on 2 internal streets in the area, as well as inside some residences.

Also, heavy rain water overflowed from the Azlarsoy stream and entered the yards and gardens of 56 houses located in 5 inner streets of the Azlarsoy mahalla, located below the stream, as well as some residences.

In order to eliminate the consequences of the flood and ensure the safety of the population, 210 residents from 56 households in the Azlarsoy mahalla and 150 residents from 32 households in the Elobod mahalla were temporarily moved to the homes of their relatives located in a safe area. The floodwaters collected in the basement of 2 4-story houses located in the district’s “Yangi Shahar” mahalla were removed with the help of fire-rescue equipment and motor pumps.

In order to ensure the safety of vehicles and passengers in the 1535-1536 km section of the M-41 “Almaty-Bishkek-Dushanbe-Termez” highway passing through the Elobod mahalla of Kumkurgan district, traffic movement was temporarily restricted and after the floods ended, the mud collected on the road was cleaned using special equipment. At 21:00, two-way traffic was fully restored.

The floodwaters in this area overflowed about 0.4 km of the railway and partially washed away the gravel coating as a result of the failure of the water pipeline of the “Kumkurgan-Elbayon” railway crossing PK 8-9 belonging to the Termiz regional railway junction UE.

With the help of 200 employees of the Termiz regional railway station, an emergency recovery train, 2 loaders, 1 excavator, gravel brought in 28 wagons was laid on the damaged section of the railway, repair and restoration work was carried out, and today, March 22 at 07:00, railway traffic was fully restored.

At the same time, the inner streets, roads and other places of Elobod mahalla are being cleaned of mud. 462 employees, 7 machines, 11 motor pumps, 24 engineering machines were involved in the urgent measures.

No casualties were reported as a result of the flooding.
