The Russian state corporation Rosatom is discussing the construction of small nuclear power plants with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and the island states of East Asia. CEO of the corporation Alexey Likhachev announced this in the State Duma.

Likhachev noted that the demand for small nuclear power plants is high.

“Our analysts say that in the next 10-15 years, 30-40 GW low-power nuclear power plants will be built on our planet,” he said.

The head of Rosatom also informed about the ongoing negotiations with the Russian companies Nornickel, Gazpromneft and Lukoil regarding the projects of small nuclear power plants.

“Several countries are our partners and clients. An intergovernmental agreement has been concluded with some of them, and work is being carried out on the contracts. And with some, we are still working at the level of technical vision and economic model. We are negotiating with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar and a number of island countries in Southeast Asia,” he said.
