Egypt's Nile Sugar to cultivate sugar beet in Jizzakh region

The Egyptian company Nile Sugar intends to cultivate sugar beet in the Jizzakh region, the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

On February 19, representatives of the ministry held a meeting with a delegation from the company. The parties discussed the implementation of a project focused on the cultivation of sugar beet and the production of sugar products in the Jizzakh region.

As an experimental venture, seeds imported from Germany, France, and the Netherlands will be sown over an area of 50-60 hectares.

In July of the previous year, Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Egypt, Mansurbek Kilichev, met with Nile Sugar's Executive Director, Emad Farid. The parties agreed to initiate sugar production in Jizzakh. On July 17-21, a delegation from the Egyptian company visited Uzbekistan to explore investment opportunities on-site.

Nile Sugar was founded in 2006. The company is engaged in the cultivation of sugar beet and the production of sugar. Its sugar factory, located 50 km from the port of Alexandria, commenced operations in 2010. The nominal production capacity for processing beet amounts to 7.5 – 11 thousand tons per day.
