CB: 400,000-soum banknotes circulating on the Internet are fake

The Central Bank issued an official statement regarding the circulation of photos of the 100,000-soum banknote with the denomination numbers changed to 400,000.

According to the regulator, according to Article 39 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the nominal value of banknotes of the Republic of Uzbekistan is determined by the Central Bank.

It is noted that in accordance with Article 40 of this law, the Central Bank has the exclusive right to issue banknotes as legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the announcement of the issuance of new banknotes, as well as their descriptions, will be published by the Central Bank in the mass media.

“Accordingly, we request that the 400,000-soum banknotes circulating in some social networks do not have any legal basis and our citizens should not be deceived by such false news,” the official message reads.

Earlier, it was reported that persons who produced a large amount of counterfeit money were arrested in Navoi. Also, a person who tried to sell counterfeit 200,000-soum banknotes was caught in Tashkent, and in the beginning of 2023, a criminal group engaged in the preparation and sale of counterfeit money was detained in Jizzakh, Samarkand and Bukhara regions.

It should be recalled that last time 1,000-soum coins were put into circulation by the Central Bank. From July 15, 2022, a banknote of 200,000 soums was put into circulation in Uzbekistan.

Starting from December 21, 2021, banknotes with a nominal value of 50,000 soums and 100,000 soums were put into circulation.

For information, according to the legislation of Uzbekistan, making counterfeit money, excise stamps or securities, their transfer is a cause of criminal liability.
