The service automates the analysis of data obtained from video cameras. Video analytics will help improve product layout, optimize customer service, and eliminate the human factor in security matters.

VEON AdTech's business development manager for video analytics, Dmitry Kudryashov has shared details about the product.

What is the difference between video analytics and video surveillance?

Video surveillance involves operator control and monitoring of events. Unlike it, video analytics is based on machine data and uses software algorithms to detect information obtained from video cameras through neural networks. Customers are used to having an operator, a camera, and a screen. If the operator is tired, falls asleep, or gets distracted, an event captured by the camera may go unnoticed by the operator. Video analytics, on the other hand, is designed to eliminate such situations, as it operates 24/7, receives all the information the camera captures, and can promptly alert the security service. For example, in case of fire, the system sends a notification via Telegram, email, or within the platform.

What are the advantages of your product?

Firstly, it is adaptive and compatible with most modern cameras, allowing the use of existing equipment.

Secondly, there are two ways of system integration: from the customer's servers to cloud solutions. If the customer has their servers and storage, we can connect the system to them. If they don't have resources, we can offer a cloud solution. It is important to note that regardless of the chosen solution, all information remains confidential. It stays beyond the organization, and only the customer can access it after the system is deployed.

Thirdly, the system can be used in almost all areas: retail, FMCG, industry, "safe city" programs, etc. Every business can find video analytics useful.

Fourthly, the tool eliminates the human factor. Which leads to fewer risks of lost profits, increased security, and the absence of emotional influence.

What are some examples of using video analytics in business?

Video analytics will be useful in any industry. In retail, it can be used to optimize product placement on shelves, analyze customer behavior, and forecast demand. In industry, video analytics is used to monitor production processes, count finished products, and prevent theft. It can also be used to monitor logistics processes, such as tracking vehicles in warehouses. Video analytics is also applicable for ensuring security in urban environments: for controlling fare evaders in public transport or detecting suspicious behavior on the streets. It can also be used to improve service in banks and government institutions.

Can you provide a specific example of the successful implementation of video analytics?

Of course. We implemented a project to install video analytics in the main sales office of Beeline Uzbekistan. Using the already installed cameras and server, we deployed the platform and configured the neural services. They successfully monitor the operators' performance and analyze the areas where visitors gather in the room and their numbers.

Is video analytics more about sales or security?

First and foremost, video analytics is an analysis tool. It is used to monitor people flows, and ensure safety in production and logistics. We do not collect information about specific individuals and do not create a personal database. All video data remains confidential and anonymous. The sales aspect here is more about the application of the analytics: the data obtained can be used to create charts, and tables, optimize work processes, and so on.

How accurate is the technology and what human functions can it confidently replace?

The technology is almost error-free. For instance, the system correctly recognizes emotions in more than 90% of cases. Facial recognition is 99%. In most cases, errors occur due to the quality of the camera's image, its angle, and installation height.

Video analytics cannot replace creative thinking, empathy, and making complex decisions. However, as a tool for automating routine tasks, it will perform admirably and even holds certain advantages in this respect. For example, it can see in the dark and send signals to emergency services. This is useful for monitoring warehouse premises to prevent intrusions, smoke, and so on. Additionally, the system can create white and black lists. If a person from the blacklist (for instance, a shoplifter) enters the video surveillance area, it will send a signal that an unwanted person is in. Conversely, the whitelist includes people we would like to see: famous personalities and, influencers who are not always recognizable in a crowd.

What are the technical requirements for installing your video analytics system?

They are quite flexible. We can integrate our system with any modern IP camera with a connection to a server. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use cameras with a resolution of at least 1080p and allocate sufficient storage space for video data. We can also provide recommendations on camera placement and other installation aspects.

Whose equipment is used?

The country of manufacture is not of great importance, as we can use cameras already installed by the customer. It is more about the software we install.

How adaptive and easily updatable is this system?

We have already developed modules for tasks such as people counting or facial recognition. However, if more unique objects need to be monitored (industrial products, car license plates, and so on), we can train the system based on the data provided by the customer. This can be photos or videos, based on which the system will learn and perform the assigned tasks.

Is this a one-time service or does it come with subsequent support?

We have 2 available models.

  1. A 12-month subscription. It includes a support service and timely software updates.
  2. A one-time license purchase for analytics modules and software. Specialist support is also included, but limited in time.

In both cases, fine-tuning on the already deployed video analytics platform will be easier and faster. It is important that regardless of the payment method, VEON AdTech specialists are always ready to consult and scale solutions.

The launch of VEON AdTech's video analytics service opens up new perspectives for business and security. This innovative tool provides customers with unique opportunities, while the ability to use analytics wisely and creatively is an art that remains in the hands of experienced company specialists. Together, we are opening the doors to a more efficient and secure future, where technology and human potential merge into a unified whole, embodying the best aspects of modernity.
