In the Bukhara region, the construction of two wind power plants according to the project of ACWA Power continues, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.

Work on the creation of wind farms with a capacity of 500 MW each in the Peshku and Gijduvan districts started in July 2023. For this purpose, 6.5 megawatt turbines from the Chinese company Envision are used.

The installation of 73 wind turbines out of a planned 158 has now been completed at both sites. Their total capacity is 474.5 MW.

By the end of this year, it is planned to put into operation the first stage of power plants with a capacity of 400 MW. They will supply energy to residents of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Bukhara and Navoi regions.

After reaching their designed capacity, the two wind farms will produce up to 3.6 billion kWh of electricity annually. At the same time, about 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas will be saved, and atmospheric emissions will be reduced by 1.5 million tons.

Also, as part of the project, 260 km of high-voltage power lines and two 500 kV distribution stations will be built. Thanks to them, the reliability of the connection between the power grids of the north-west (Karakalpakstan, Khorezm) and the south-west (Bukhara, Navoi) will improve.

ACWA Power attracted funds from a number of international organizations for the implementation of the project. Thus, the EBRD and its partners provided it with $520 million for the construction of wind farms, and also allocated $47 million for power lines for them. The company received another $174 million from the ADB.

In addition to them, the Saudi company in Uzbekistan is working on a number of energy projects. With her participation, work is underway on two wind farms in Karakalpakstan - one of them, at 1.5 GW, will become the largest in Central Asia.

Construction of the second wind farm with a capacity of 100 MW started on February 24, 2022 with the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The company is also working on solar power plants in the Tashkent and Samarkand regions, investing in thermal power plants in the Syrdarya region and in a green hydrogen plant in Chirchik.
