Uzbekistan increased imports of Kazakh grain by 40%

Over the 10 months of 2023, Uzbekistan increased grain imports from Kazakhstan by 40%, the Kazakh news agency APK News reported with reference to the Bureau of National Statistics.

In January-October, Kazakhstan exported 3.88 million tons of grain, an increase of 24% compared to the corresponding period last year. In value terms, exports grew by 7%, exceeding $1 billion.

More than half of all grain exports went to Uzbekistan, which imported 1.96 million tons.

The second most important foreign market was Tajikistan – 404 thousand tons. Next came Afghanistan (322 thousand tons), China (249), Turkmenistan (230) and Italy (226).

Following the results of eight months of this year, Uzbekistan increased imports of wheat from Kazakhstan to a record level in five years. Deliveries of Kazakh wheat amounted to 3.88 million tons, which was more than half higher than the same figure for the previous year.

According to the State Statistics Committee, for 11 months of this year, Uzbekistan imported food worth $3.15 billion. At the same time, the volume of supplies of grains and grain products exceeded $1 billion – an increase of 7.8% year on year.
