Botir Sobirov, a native of Uzbekistan, went to Gurugram with his two brothers to undergo a kidney transplant at Artemis Hospital, the news agency Press Trust of India reports with reference to local police.
On Saturday evening at around 9:00 pm, three brothers were stopped by a group of ‘police officers’ under the pretext of checking documents when they were returning to their hotel. During the search of the bags, fake cops stole their $16 thousand and fled.
Botir filed a complaint to the police through the manager of his hotel.
“The people in the car introduced themselves as police officers, showed their identification cards, and said that they needed to check our bags,” Botir said in his appeal.
Currently, an investigation is underway at the Sector 53 police station in Gurugram under articles 379A (theft) and 419 (cheating by impersonation) of the Indian Criminal Law.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan held official negotiations with the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant departments to discuss the matter.
