“I thank everyone who collaborated, supported, contributed, believed and worked with us in the formation of a strong system for ensuring and protecting children’s rights that meets international standards, especially the head of the UNICEF Children’s Fund in Uzbekistan, Mr. Munir Mammadzade and his team for their support and promoting initiatives in the interests of children,” A. Yunusova noted.
The institution of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights was introduced in Uzbekistan in 2019. At the same time, the position of Ombudsman for Children’s Rights was introduced, which was equal in status to the Deputy Commissioner of Parliament for Human Rights (Ombudsman).
In August 2021, a separate institution of the Children’s Ombudsman was established and the position of the Deputy Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) – the Commissioner for Children’s Rights – was abolished.
