On August 31, a meeting was held between the ambassador of Uzbekistan Otabek Akbarov and the regional director of the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Central Asia, Dina Saleh, Dunyo IA reports.

In the dialogue, it was noted that the mutual relations have been developing rapidly in recent years. At the beginning of this year, the fund adopted a five-year country strategy for Uzbekistan with a total cost of 600 million dollars, as well as the decision to open a representative office of the fund in Tashkent was an important step.

At the meeting, Dina Saleh introduced Laura Mattioli, the Director of Communication with Uzbekistan, newly appointed by the Foundation, and expressed confidence that she will make a worthy contribution to consistent reforms in the country's agriculture with her rich experience in international organizations.

Laura Mattioli announced that she will take up her position in September of this year and the fund is ready to successfully implement and further expand the investment portfolio in Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the current status of the projects implemented in the country's fruit and vegetable and animal husbandry sectors. It was noted that these projects help farmers and farms to increase production and increase their income.

The United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development was founded in Rome in 1977, and its main goal is to support farmers and family farms in developing countries.

178 countries are members of the Foundation, and it has more than 40 representative offices around the world. Uzbekistan became a member of this international financial institution in 2011.
