School named after Mirzo Ulugbek opened in Karabakh

Over the past almost 30 years, Fuzuli has been completely destroyed and turned into a ghost town. Before the hostilities, about 18,000 people lived here.

After the start of restoration work in 2020, life is gradually returning to the city. Housing, social and transport infrastructure are being built.

At this important and difficult moment, Uzbekistan stands next to Azerbaijan. After all, the relationship between our peoples is deeply rooted in history. We are united by one religion, closeness of language and traditions, spiritual values and cultures.

As a sign of strong friendship and solidarity, the leader of Uzbekistan, at an informal summit of the Turkic Council on March 31, 2021, noted the readiness of Uzbekistan to contribute to the restoration of monuments, cultural and educational sites in the land of Karabakh.

The practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan was the construction of a modern school No. 1 named after Mirzo Ulugbek in the city of Fizuli, designed for 960 students.

The school has 40 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 2 IT rooms, 5 functional classrooms, assembly and sports halls, a dining room, a library. A football field, places for recreation and events, running tracks have been built on its territory.

The new school will serve to further rapprochement between our peoples, familiarizing young Azerbaijanis with the rich history and culture of Uzbekistan, the heritage of our great ancestors.

The leaders of the two countries, together with their spouses, cut the red ribbon and solemnly opened the school.

The presidents toured the educational buildings and the territory of the school, had a warm conversation with the students, wishing them success in their studies.

Then the heads of state visited a residential complex under construction in the city of Fizuli.

The presidents met with the residents of the block, who were given the keys to new apartments. The head of our state congratulated them on their house-warming.

In a sincere conversation, they spoke about strong friendship and fraternal relations between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

The leader of our country noted with satisfaction the return of life in Fuzuli to normal, highly appreciated the creative work carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to restore and develop Karabakh, to ensure the most comfortable conditions for the population. The wishes of peace, tranquility and prosperity to the people of Azerbaijan were expressed.

The heads of state visited the new apartments. Then the leaders went up to the observation platform and examined the consequences of the destruction and the progress of construction work. The President of Uzbekistan was told about plans to restore Fuzuli.
