On July 17, the appellate court on the case of 21-year-old Jahongir Ulugmurodov, who was sentenced to 3 years in prison for sending a YouTube link to a nasheed (religious song) to his classmates, was completed in the Tashkent regional court, and the original verdict was left unchanged.
According to Aziz Obidov, head of the public relations center of the Supreme Court, an appeal can be filed against this ruling to the Criminal Trial Panel of the Supreme Court in the cassation procedure.
A source familiar with the details of the case believes that if the case is heard in the Supreme Court in the cassation procedure, there is possibility that the convict will be given a lighter sentence.
In addition, according to the Kun.uz source, amnesty is expected to be announced twice this year. One of them may be on Independence Day and another on the eve of Constitution Day.
It is said that persons who committed acts like Jahongir Ulugmurodov can be pardoned and released from punishment.
It should be noted that the Tashkent regional DIA announced that Jahongir Ulugmurodov had distributed the slogan prepared by the Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad group operating in Syria, which was included in the list of terrorist organizations by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
