“At the moment, we are doing great work on increasing the prestige of the Uzbek language as the state language.
At present, new, more important tasks are ahead of us. In particular, it is necessary to communicate with our intellectuals and the general public, to complete the work on improving our alphabet based on the Latin script,” blogger Khushnudbek Khudoyberdiyev quoted the presidential candidate as saying.
It should be recalled that in November 2021, the final and decisive meeting of Uzbek linguists on the reform of the Uzbek alphabet based on the Latin script was held at the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature named after Alisher Navoi.
In it, experts decided that the letters o‘, g‘, sh, ch, ng of the alphabet should be represented by one character because they cause a number of problems, and the draft document based on this decision was to be submitted to the Legislative Chamber. But no further practical steps were taken on this proposal.
Final suggestions for improving the alphabet
Also, in the same year, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a “roadmap” to ensure a gradual transition to the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet.
Until now, no information has been provided regarding the implementation of a number of tasks specified in it, in particular, the task of developing the relevant regulatory legal document.
