500 million soums to be allocated to each of 452 mahallas in Karakalpakstan

The draft of the government decision “On the establishment of the mahalla support fund in the Republic of Karakalpakstan” was announced.

“Support of mahallas” fund can be established under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan without establishing a legal entity.

The established fund will allocate 500 million soums directly to each of 452 mahallas during 2023 from the funds provided for the socio-economic development of the regions.

The following are the sources of fund formation:

•  at the expense of the funds provided for socio-economic development of the regions based on the instructions of the President of Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers;
•  funds and assets of voluntary sponsorship of legal entities and individuals;
•  receipts from the account of placing temporarily idle funds of the fund in deposits of commercial banks;
•  other sources not prohibited by legislation.

The following are defined as the main directions of using the funds of the fund:

•  repair and restoration of internal roads, electricity and natural gas networks, drinking water and sewage systems in the areas of mahallas;
•  implementation of neighborhood infrastructure development, beautification and greening works;
•  encouraging street leaders and housewives in mahallas;
•  financial assistance to low-income families in need of social protection and repair of their residences;
•  construction, large and small repairs of the buildings of citizens' assemblies and the areas where they are located, sports grounds, a place of luminaries, a youth center, children's playgrounds, a library, cultural centers and providing them with inventory, furniture, computer equipment and other equipment;
•  organization of “mahalla gardens” within the nationwide project “green space”;
•  implementation of “mahalla startup” and micro-projects to turn the mahalla into a center for small business and entrepreneurship development;
•  prevention of crime in the mahalla and encouragement of initiative citizens who have contributed to the well-being of the mahalla;
•  for other purposes not prohibited by legislation.
