Uzbekistan establishes diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago

Yesterday in New York (USA), a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Trinidad and Tobago was signed, Kun.uz correspondent reported.

This is the 144th country that has established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan.

The document was signed by the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Ambassador Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and the Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN, Dennis Francis, on behalf of the governments of the two countries.

“I am happy that the day has come when Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan officially announced their decision to establish diplomatic relations to the world and the international community. We, Trinidad and Tobago, see this as the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Uzbekistan, an important member of the Central Asian region,” Dennis Francis said after signing the communiqué.

The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint cooperation within international organizations, including the UN and its specialized institutions. An agreement was reached to continue bilateral relations in search of mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

The signing of the document was an important step towards expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Caribbean countries.

Earlier, on June 1, permanent representative Dennis Francis was elected as the chairman of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
