On December 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the proposals for the transformation of Uzbekistan Airways JSC.
Tasks for the transformation of civil aviation enterprises were defined in the presidential decree of April 30, 2021. Foreign consultants were involved in the process. In particular, work is being carried out with the Turkish expert Ilker Aycı’s team on the reform of Uzbekistan Airways JSC. When he was in charge of Turkish Airlines, he successfully took it from the regional level to the global level, an official report reads.
It is noted that today Uzbekistan Airways has a similar task. It is planned to turn Uzbekistan into an international transport hub by rationally using the geographical location and industry infrastructure.
In the presentation, the head of state was informed about the developed strategy for the transformation and development of Uzbekistan Airways.
According to him, measures will be taken to introduce a corporate management system to the airline based on international experience, increase the number of aircraft, improve the quality of services and expand the cargo transportation network. With the involvement of foreign investors, the privatization of the airline will be completed on the basis of world standards.
“The goal is to turn Uzbekistan Airways into a leading regional airline, as well as to ensure low-cost movement of the population in domestic and international routes,” the report said.
The President approved these plans and emphasized the need to start their implementation as soon as possible.
“We are ten years late in this field. The airline is operating in an old-fashioned way, passengers are dissatisfied with the quality of service. If we want to develop our economy and tourism, this is our only way,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
Recommendations were made to establish a project office in the airline and coordinate the transformation process.
It should be recalled that in August, the State Assets Management Agency announced a competition for the selection of a professional consulting company to develop a strategy for privatization of Uzbekistan Airways.
