President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will carefully study the idea of a “tripartite gas union” between Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, which was proposed at the Kremlin talks. A decision has not yet been taken on the establishment of such an alliance, said Roman Vasilenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
“It was said that the head of state will carefully study the idea. This is just an offer for now. A lot of opinions and proposals are expressed in diplomacy, so they deserve the attention of experts. Before the decision is made, as the head of state said, this proposal will be studied,” Roman Vasilenko said.
At the same time, according to the diplomat, the establishment of a “gas union” with Russia should not cause any difficulties for Kazakhstan and should not lead to direct or indirect participation of the country in circumventing anti-Russian sanctions.
Kazakhstan opposed the use of sanctions as a way of solving international problems, but followed them without deviation.
“Kazakhstan will not allow its territory to be used to circumvent sanctions. From the very first days of this conflict, we created a commission in the government, whose task is to prevent the negative impact of the situation on the economy of Kazakhstan and to prevent the use of the territory of Kazakhstan to circumvent sanctions. These positions will not change, they will be used in the assessment of any potential initiatives,” Roman Vasilenko said.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ruslan Jeldibay, announced that the idea of creating a “tripartite gas union” between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia will be discussed by experts of the three countries during detailed negotiations.
The government of the Russian Federation put forward the idea of creating an alliance in order to coordinate actions on the transportation of Russian gas through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
